Sleep Deprivation Diaries
Going off to college is an amazing experience that provides young adults with more freedom than ever before. One of these newfound freedoms is the liberty to choose when you want to go to bed. Now, don’t get me wrong, all college students love their sleep: sleeping in, taking naps, maybe even sleeping in class every now and then, but actually getting to sleep at a reasonable time is something that many of us struggle with. Parents always say, “Nothing good happens after midnight,” which we have learned isn’t exactly true. Sure, there have been times when we realize it would have been smarter to head home early, but we’ve also all had some incredibly fun nights that have created great memories with friends. There are endless numbers of interesting, funny, and sometimes tragic events that would have never happened if we had gotten ourselves to bed at a reasonable time.
Through this, “The Sleep Deprivation Diaries: Embarrassing Stories from Freshman Year” was born. This will be a series of posts about hilarious and stupid events that have happened to college students we have known. It will all be anonymous, and you even have the opportunity of having your story shared on the blog, too! Write in to us using the google form linked below, and keep checking back to see if it gets featured. Obviously, we won’t be asking for your name or contact info, so it is totally anonymous, and no one will ever know who the stories are about.
With that being said, let’s kick things off with our first story. This one we are calling “The Flood.”
This student writes, “After a wild night out with my friends and maybe…. 5 too many drinks… We finally got back to the dorm REALLY late. My drunken self decided it would be the best idea to get in the shower instead of going straight to bed. Well, as you can imagine, the buzz wore off and exhaustion kicked in, and before I knew it, I was waking up in the shower. The shower who’s drain had been covered by my leg and was now completely overflowed. The entire bathroom floor was now a small pond, and my roommates and I were FREAKING OUT. Naturally, we pulled out all of our hundreds of T shirts to start soaking it all up. We went then went down to the laundry room to dry all the shirts out - it was so many it literally took 3 dryers. Then we called maintenance and told them our drain wasn’t working so they basically came and looked at it and told us we were stupid. Moral of the story - I’m never taking a shower in the middle of the night when I’m drunk again.”
